Freelancers tax registration caption on a working desk

As a human being there are 2 things that we can't escape in our entire life namely, death and taxes.

Now we're gonna talk about tax. As an individual that earns a living we are required to pay our taxes, yes that includes you, the freelancer. But filing and paying can be challenging especially if you are new to it. What to do, what to file, where to go, whose to approach are some of the questions that a newly freelancer asks himself.

Firstly we are gonna discuss as a freelancer, why should we register?

Why should Freelancers register?

Every business, entity, and individual are required to register and file for their taxes. As a freelancer, generally we belong to self-employed individuals in registering and filing our taxes. Filing for Tax registration as a self-employed individual can make our work life easier. We can process loans and transactions smoother. We can legitimize our work through issuing receipts or invoices. We can build our brand as a business. and lastly, we are not going to be in trouble when the government audits us.

Now we have the reason to register as a taxpayer. What are the documents that we need?

Documents needed for Tax Registration

There are many forms now in BIR to fill up and it's confusing which forms and documents are needed for registration. To simplify, we need 8 documents for registration. The list are:

1. TIN Number

2. Birth Certificate

3. Valid Government ID (2 )

4. Barangay Certification

5. PRC ID (if applicable)

6. Professional or Occupational Receipts

7. BIR 1901 (BIR Application Form)

8. BIR 0605 (BIR Registration Form)

Now as a freelancer you have all the documents you need to be a registered taxpayer. Submit all the documents to your nearest RDO and wait for your BIR 2303 or your Certificate of Registration (COR). Having this document proves that you are now finally registered.

Now that you are registered freelancer, the next question is how to file your tax correctly and pay it on time.
